About Anna Lauer Roy, LPC
Anna Lauer Roy is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Columbine Behavioral Healthcare in Durango, Colorado. She earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling and is pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Psychology. She provides therapy to adults.
Anna is bilingual and says that offering services to Spanish-speaking members of our community is a privilege.
Anna is trained in EMDR, and The Social Resilience Model (a neurologically- and mindfulness-based approach to working with trauma and other types of anxiety). She is also trained in Emotional Focused Therapy for couples, which is an attachment-theory informed model for helping couples strengthen their relationships.
Her main orientation as a therapist is client-centered and culturally-conscious therapy. She believes in learning as much as she can about the perspectives and values and style of communication that you bring to the therapeutic process and to allow those things to guide her work with clients. She facilitates the Pain and Illness Management group Anxiety and Depression skills group.
“I received my Registered Yoga Teacher certification through The Integrative Yoga Therapy training program, as well as training from The University of California San Diego as an instructor of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. I have taught meditation and therapeutic yoga to groups and individuals throughout most of my almost decade long career as a therapist.”
“Backcountry skiing, mountain biking, running and hiking – prowling around the mountains in any form is a passion for me. I love playing music (mainly the mandolin and the fiddle). I also love to cook (especially things that involve local Durango fruit, because that means first the fun of picking fruit and then the fun of eating it). I was born and raised in Fort Collins. This is my second stint in Durango – I went to Fort Lewis College for my undergraduate degree, and just recently moved back to stay after being away for too long.”
“I believe that any effort that an individual makes to be more intentional about having a healthy mind, heart, and body is of benefit to their entire community. I think it is a brave and serviceable action to care deeply and completely for one’s own body and mind – it will have helpful ripple effects that reach far beyond that individual alone.”
