Residents of Montezuma and Dolores counties had plenty of fun events to choose from this summer. Axis Health System staff members were happy to come out and support the community in person or with a sponsorship donation.
“It’s a lot of fun to be outside and meet people one-on-one. Those personal, neighbor-to-neighbor connections are so important in our small communities,” said Karla Sluis, Marketing Manager for Axis Health System. “That’s why we love to be invited to participate in live events – especially after being cooped up inside staring at screens during the pandemic.”
Axis supported three events in Montezuma and Dolores counties in July and August:
- Montelores Children’s Festival: Axis staff Haley Leonard, Michaela Collins and Kirsten Howell, a Family Nurse Practitioner at Cortez Integrated Healthcare and Dove Creek Integrated Healthcare, participated in the Montelores Early Childhood Council Children’s Festival on July 24. Howell provided height and weight screenings, and the team shared information on the Community Counseling Assistance Program (CCP) and let parents know that Axis clinics are great places for pediatric care. The event welcomed more than 100 families.
- SummerFest: Axis staff members from two local clinics – Cortez Integrated Healthcare and Dove Creek Integrated Healthcare – attended the Town of Dolores’ first SummerFest on July 17. They shared Axis information and gave out great prizes. More than 200 people attended the event throughout the day.
- Pick N’ Hoe: Axis was a sponsor of this longtime Fourth of July celebration in Dolores at Weber Park on July 3-4. The event includes games, tournaments, food vendors, parade, live music and fireworks.
At live events, Sluis said many people are aware that Axis offers mental health services, but some are surprised to learn about primary care and dental services available at Axis clinics in Cortez and Dove Creek.
“At live events, we have a chance to get to know people and understand their unique needs,” said Sluis. “No matter what their healthcare need – mental, physical, dental – head to toe, we’ve got them covered.”
