Cortez, Co.–  Axis Health System, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response, is offering free Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Field Response training to learn how to provide emotional support in times of crisis. This training equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to offer immediate, compassionate support to individuals affected by traumatic events, disasters, and crises to promote recovery.

The course is designed for anyone interested in learning new skills to provide emotional support and may include disaster responders, teachers, clergy and church staff, volunteers, community members, and anyone who may find themselves in a position to assist survivors in the wake of an emergency.

The training will cover key skills, including assessing and addressing emotional needs, providing psychological support, and promoting coping strategies in the aftermath of disasters. Participants will also learn how to identify signs of distress and refer individuals to appropriate mental health resources when necessary. Participants must complete Psychological First Aid to attend the field response course.
