Dr. Amber Reiss-Holt, MD, is a triple-board-certified physician trained in surgical critical care, emergency medicine, and general surgery, with over 20 years of clinical experience. She co-founded with her husband, Dr. David Shaeffer, Pagosa Medical Group in 2017, which has since transitioned into Axis Health System Pagosa Springs Urgent Care. Dr. Reiss-Holt is committed to expanding healthcare access and delivering high-quality urgent and primary care services in Pagosa Springs.
Dr. Reiss‑Holt earned her MD from Albany Medical College in 2000 and completed a rigorous residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Maryland from 2000 to 2003. She then completed a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, MD, from 2004 to 2005. Following this, she started a general surgery residency at LA County–Harbor‑UCLA from 2006–2007 and then transferred to Hawaii Residency Programs from 2007-2010 to complete her General Surgery training. She is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care.
Dr. Reiss-Holt brought her education and experience to Pagosa Springs in 2011. She has practiced emergency medicine, general surgery and critical care in the region but has focused her efforts in recent years on providing excellent primary and urgent care services in this community. She is known for her patient centered care and strong bedside manner. Patients regularly commend her attentiveness, willingness to explain complex medical issues, and dedication to accessible, compassionate medicine.
