Axis Health System Expands Access to Opioid Use Disorder Treatment with Sublocade Availability at Southwest Region Pharmacies

DURANGO, Colo. — Axis Health System is expanding access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder by making Sublocade® (buprenorphine extended-release injection) available through all Axis in-house pharmacies in the Southwest Region. The addition of Sublocade gives patients another evidence-based treatment option to support long-term recovery and ongoing care.

Sublocade is a once-monthly injectable medication used in the treatment of moderate to severe opioid dependence. It is administered by a healthcare professional and is designed to help support recovery by providing continuous medication coverage between doses.

“This expansion strengthens our ability to provide integrated, whole-person care for individuals living with opioid use disorder,” said Joshua Shumway, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy at Axis Health System. “By offering Sublocade through our pharmacies and clinical teams, we can help patients access treatment within the communities where they already receive care.”

Because Sublocade must be administered by a healthcare professional, Axis has established a workflow that supports safe medication handling and regulatory compliance. Patients visit the pharmacy to complete required pickup procedures and any applicable payment, after which the medication is transferred directly to an authorized healthcare provider or clinical staff member for administration. Patients do not take possession of the medication. At Durango Integrated Healthcare, pharmacists are also available to assist with administering Sublocade injections when appropriate.

The addition of Sublocade reflects Axis Health System’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to effective treatment options for substance use disorders. Through integrated medical, behavioral health, pharmacy, and recovery support services, Axis helps individuals and families access coordinated care at every stage of recovery.

Patients interested in learning more about Sublocade or medication-assisted treatment options are encouraged to speak with their Axis healthcare provider or pharmacy team.
