The Withdrawal Management Program Update for Axis Health System’s Regional Crisis Center- Montrose is changed from a 3.2 Withdrawal Management (WDM) unit to a 23-hour observation model. This new service includes five dedicated observation beds within the Walk-In Crisis (WIC) area. Axis provides withdrawal management protocols for up to 23 hours to ensure immediate stabilization and assessment locally. For individuals requiring longer withdrawal management, Axis conducts clinical assessments, coordinates referrals to other facilities, arranges transportation, and provides a warm handoff when possible. Additionally, the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) can admit Emergency Commitment (EC) patients, expanding local treatment options and reducing unnecessary transfers. Key points include:
Transition to New Model: Colorado is phasing out 3.2 Withdrawal Management (WDM) levels of care statewide over two years. RCC-M has transitioned to a 23-hour observation model with five dedicated beds in the Walk-In Crisis (WIC) area.
Withdrawal Management Services:
RCC-M provides withdrawal management protocols for up to 23 hours for immediate stabilization and assessment.
For longer withdrawal management needs, RCC-M conducts clinical assessments, coordinates referrals to other facilities (e.g., Durango Withdrawal Management or similar), arranges transportation, and provides a warm handoff when possible.
If transfer is not possible, discharge and safety planning are conducted.
Medication Support: Clinically appropriate withdrawal medications may be provided before transfer to ensure continuity of care.
Emergency Commitment (EC): RCC-M’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) can admit EC patients when criteria are met, reducing unnecessary transfers out of the community.
Additional Services: The unit also supports individuals needing monitoring after a clinician-completed Crisis Assessment, improving safety and clinical outcomes.
Medical Detox: Axis does not provide medical detox services; individuals requiring such care are referred to hospital-based or medically supervised programs.
