Jennifer Rhoda Lucchesi recently joined the team at Axis Health System the new Director of Behavioral Health Outpatient, based at Durango Integrated Healthcare in Durango. Her job is to is to ensure that clinical staff, supervisors and managers have the support they need to provide patients with the best care possible. “I get excited thinking about what types of services and resources would best help clients, and then working with staff to develop new programming that meets the needs of our community,” said Jennifer. She previously worked in integrated healthcare as a provider and experienced firsthand the challenges and rewards of working in that setting. “I was especially impressed with how Axis has truly established themselves as one of the leaders in integrated care in the state of Colorado,” she said. Close to the Thanksgiving holiday, Jennifer said she thinks the practice of gratitude can have a huge impact on mental health. “It requires each of us to make a conscious decision every day, throughout our day, to appreciate the opportunities we have in life and to linger on even the smallest, most simple moments and experiences,” she said. “For example, some of the things I am grateful for today are a good night’s rest, not having to cook dinner tonight, and quiet time in the morning for journaling and prayer. When we focus on what we have, rather than what we lack, it can help shift our perspective on what we may see as a problem and instead see it as an opportunity.” Jennifer grew up in a small town in California and moved to Colorado Springs when she was 11. She has called Colorado’s front range home for more than 25 years, and just moved to the area in October. “My husband and I fell in love with the area before we first heard about Axis, which led to me looking for opportunities in the area and finding Axis,” she said. “Everyone is so friendly, and everywhere I go is unbelievably beautiful.” She and her husband enjoy wine tasting, travel and scuba diving. They have a 2-year-old son. A fun fact about Jennifer is that she is an amazing cook and has a huge cookbook collection.
