Our organization has a long-standing and proud history of changing with the emerging healthcare needs of our patients and our communities. Over the course of the last year, we have several milestones worth highlighting:

  • Expansion of our Cortez clinic to support additional oral health, behavioral health and pharmacy services;
  • Expansion of our Norwood clinic facility and behavioral health staff;
  • Expansion of behavioral health staff at our Telluride and Gunnison clinics;
  • Expanded the Dove Creek Pharmacy and opened pharmacy services to the public;
  • Relocation of behavioral health staff in Crested Butte to a larger, more accessible location; and
  • Launch of Co-Responder program in partnership with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Department.

This year is off to another great start…I am honored to announce that we are starting this year off with the opening of our new healthcare facility – Axis Health System Durango Integrated Healthcare Clinic, located at 150 Mercury Drive in Durango. This facility is the result of 10+ years of strategic planning by our Board and leadership team with 2+ years of due diligence and preparation.

At the time of this letter, we have consolidated our services and teams from four different locations in La Plata County into the new Durango Integrated Healthcare Clinic, including: La Plata Integrated Healthcare Clinic, Durango Oral Healthcare Clinic, Columbine Behavioral Healthcare Clinic and our administrative staff from our Corporate Office.

With this consolidation in Durango, we are bringing together our full range of outpatient healthcare options: Primary Care, Dental Care, Psychiatry, Therapy & Counseling, and Substance Use Treatment into one clinic. As we are settling into this new location, our team is well underway planning for our first phase of expansion this summer with improved oral health access and the addition of pharmacy services.

Guided by Axis’ mission and values – we are changing how care is delivered to make it more effective; we are building community relationships to better address emerging healthcare needs; and we are creating a better experience of care for our patients, while improving the overall health of our communities.

While our partnerships and work we do in each of our communities may look different, it all informs how we continuously seek to improve healthcare access across our region and deliver on our mission of “Making a meaningful difference through healthcare innovation and treating the whole person”.

In health,

Shelly Burke
